HOW TO CONVERT SECCHI IMAGES
This information was supplied by Rainer Kratch and I have added some additional steps.
You need to download the Fitswork Program
Then go to SECCHI images. For example if you want the Hi1 images go here: http://stereo-ssc.nascom.nasa.gov/data/ins_data/secchi/L0/a/img/hi_1/
Click the file highlighted.

Get the image highlighted below in yellow. Make a folder and save for example the Hi1 images. Then repeat the process, what you want is the 000100 images for the 22nd,23,24,25,26. These will be for the Background. Also as an example download any image you want to see, for example save the one below the highlighted file or you can download them all but to save time I would choose one, two or three if you want to blink them, just so you see what you are doing.
Open Fitswork, you will have to unzip the file and open the program. Once Fitswork is open go to the top left and click on Datei and then scroll down to Masterdark/-flat erstellen and click on that. It might take a few seconds to open. You should see a new window of Fitswork. Select the Flats tab in purple. See below screen shot. You now want to get the images you saved for making the background. Go to the top left window highlighted in blue showing your files in your directories and get the five 000100 images you saved in the folder you named, no other ones at the moment. The files you saved will then appear in the red highlighted window. You will click on and with ctrl key highlight the five 000100 images, drag them into the window highlighted in green. Note I do not have all five images this was an old file I used for example.
Select and check the Median box circled in yellow. Click on Erstellen tab highlighted in yellow The file Masterflat.fit will contain the background image. You will see a small window pop up as it converts the images, when it is done click ok.
Now go to the Data or Datei and click on open or offnen. You should see a window as below.
Click on the Masterflat file and click open then go back to data then open and get the image you wish to blink other image you saved other than the 000100 image and click open. You will then see the above window disappear and see the below window come up with the two images I selected, one being the background image you created and the other the image or images you will want to blink or make a movie of. For this example I chose one image as seen below.
Next you want to remove the background of the image you chose. To do this go to Bearbeiten (meaning to work on) top of Fitswork and scroll down to Hell-Bild dividieren (meaning to Brightly divide picture ) You will see the image with background removed as seen below.
You can save this file that is the front image to where you will be able to retrieve it such as example> Secchi Search by clicking on the "Save" tab as highlighted in green as seen in above image sample.
I find that saving them as tiff works,I have tried the jpeg but I like the tiff for this example. Try what works best for you. Close the other two images and do not save them. Repeat the process for next image if you want to blink them. I'm sure there is a short that works but for this example I do them one at a time.
To save the images with stars showing go to green highlighted area and create a file SECCH SEARCH etc and then in the red hilighted box name the image or leave as is and in the blue highlighted box choose how to save as.
I then manipulate the images in Photoshop and Blink them. See sample below.
For photoshop I bring up the images want to blink after I have lightened them.
