THIS JUNE 13th.. SEE THE MOVIE "THE PLANETS" JUNE 13 2008 AT THE YORK LEARNING CENTER IS THE PLANETS AND STARWATCH. Showing only at a Planetarium See show times here: Planetarium "Weather permitting telescopes may be set up for observing after the presentation." The York County Astronomical Society holds a public observing session every month (weather permitting) at the Rudy Park Observatory. The club's telescopes will be used to show the public many of the fascinating objects that are up in the nighttime sky. We will also be showing people how to use Star charts to identify the stars and constellations that are up in the nighttime sky. The public is encouraged to bring their own telescopes, if they have one, to learn how to use them more effectively. These observing sessions are only held if it is clear out. What is a Public Observing Star Watch? It's an opportunity to get together with other individuals who share a fascination with astronomy & the night sky. An event for both experts and beginners to meet under a dark sky away from city lights, and set up their telescopes and look at comets , planets, galaxies, nebulas, star clusters, and asteroids. If you own a telescope your welcome to bring it along, or enjoy a view through other telescopes of all types. Experienced YCAS members will answer your questions and you can observe through their telescopes. There is plenty to see. If you are interested in buying a telescope this is a great place to ask questions. For last minute updates on our events, most likely concerning weather or cancellations, please call our voice mail with announcements at (717) 578-9109). We encourage everyone to bring their own telescope to observe with us, especially if you need any assistance with assembly or instructions on use. The York County Astronomical Society, Inc. is a non-profit organization dedicated to the advancement of the science of astronomy to all concerned Unless otherwise advertised, Most star watches are held at our observatory, located in John Rudy County Park, at 400 Mundis Race Road in York County, Pennsylvania, 17402 , they are free and open to the public. If you have a red-filtered flashlight please bring it along. While on the observatory's premises: no smoking, food, pets (except guide dogs) or flash photography is permitted, thank you. In accordance with the ADA, those with disabilities who wish to gain access within York County Parks should telephone the County of York human services offices at (717-771-9099). Directions to Observatory MAP to Rudy Park Observatory York Directions for the location of John Rudy Park Observatory. Take Rt. 30 to Rt 24 exit, and go north over the hill. When you get to the bottom of the hill, turn right at the stop sign. Go over the creek, and turn left at the "S" turn----be careful, and watch for southbound speeders. Go about 1/2 mile, turn right into the park at the split rail fence. The observatory is in the field off to the left of the gravel parking lot. Look for the red light if someone is there. Directions to the Planetarium Directions to Planetarium: See: Map Quest See: Planetarium parking map From Route 30 take George street and head towards downtown York and turn left on 6th street ( You will see a sign that says Elite Staffing Service at the turn to 6th street) take 6th street and you will come to one stop sign, continue on 6th street up a slight hill and you will see the school on left at Elk street. The planetarium is on the southwest side of the school complex. The parking locations are at E. 6th Ave and Elk St intersection. Look for signs to planetarium. YCAS members will direct you to planetarium.
